Hembing launches book on SARS

JAKARTA: Herbal medicine expert H.M. Hembing Wijayakusuma has
made the best of the ongoing Jakarta Book Festival 2003,
launching his latest book Proteksi Dini Terhadap SARS (How to
protect yourself from SARS).

The prolific writer was not dismayed when only several people
attended the launch. "It (low attendance) is okay, because this
shows that Indonesians are not afraid of SARS," he quipped.

The book offers tips on how to deal with the deadly Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS, which started in southern
China and spread to much of the world.

"I was in Guangdong when the first SARS case was reported, so
I think I have the authority to write a book (on it)," he said.

Hembing said he could not imagine if SARS became a nationwide
epidemic, as is happening in China, because Indonesians have bad
habits when it comes to health and hygiene.

"Even countries that are highly disciplined like China, Taiwan
and Singapore are overwhelmed. What might happen if an epidemic
breaks out in Indonesia?" he said. -- JP

Arnie may run for governorship

RADNOR, Pennsylvania: Arnold Schwarzenegger says he may think
about running for California governor after the summer release of
his new movie, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, but his family
will have a say in the matter.

"When I get to that point that I say, 'I want to run,' I will
have that conversation with my family and with my close friends,"
Schwarzenegger told TV Guide for its May 31 issue.

He said the advice of his wife, NBC News correspondent Maria
Shriver, a member of the Kennedy family and a Democrat, will be
especially significant.

"She has to give the green light and feel comfortable with it,
because she moved away from Washington to get away from all that
kind of stuff," Schwarzenegger said.

"I'm not thinking about it (now), but I might start thinking
about it after Terminator 3 is released," said Schwarzenegger, a
Republican. He says the movie is his top priority for now.

"So much has to be done for marketing, publicity, commercial
tie-ins and the merchandising," he said. -- AP
