Help keep city clean: Mayor

JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta Mayor H.Pardjoko has called on all residents, including shop owners and people living along major roads, to help keep the city clean.

"I will never get bored of touring Jakarta, inspecting and leading the regular cleanliness campaigns sponsored by the city administration, so that the capital lives up to its motto: Jakarta Teguh Beriman," Pardjoko told Antara.

Teguh Beriman is the abbreviation of the Indonesian Teruskan Gerakan Untuk Hidup Bersih, Menarik dan Aman, which means: Movement for the continuation of clean, interesting and peaceful life.

Pardjoko expressed deep concern about the fact that many shop owners, whose shops are located on major roads, have not yet paid full attention to the cleanliness around their areas.

He said the city administration has assigned private parties to be in charge of cleanliness along the city's main roads. "So far, however, they have not performed up to expectations, as proved by the fact that those shop owners have yet to place garbage bins in front of their shops." (bas)
