Balinese art and culture preservationist, Ida Ayu Nyoman Oka, has passed away at the age of 82. The heirs of the artist have received death benefits (JKM) from the Social Security Administering Body for Employment (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) amounting to Rp 42 million, provided by the Gianyar Regency Government.

“Symbolically, we are handing over the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan death benefit compensation to the heirs of the Wija Kusuma artist, the late Ida Ayu Nyoman Oka,” stated the Regent of Gianyar, I Made Agus Mahayastra, during the symbolic handover in Siangan Village, Gianyar District, on Sunday (2/8/2026).

Mahayastra explained that during her lifetime, Ida Ayu Nyoman Oka was deeply dedicated to preserving Balinese art and culture. In recognition of her contributions, Nyoman Oka had been enrolled in the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan protection programme specifically designed for artists. The provision of this compensation serves as a form of attention and appreciation from the Gianyar Regency Government towards arts workers.

“The Gianyar Regency Government has enrolled 595 artists in the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan programme, with an annual budget allocation of nearly Rp 120 million sourced from the Gianyar Regency Regional Budget (APBD),” Mahayastra revealed.

Mahayastra emphasised that the state’s presence through the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan programme acts as a form of guaranteed protection for workers and their families when facing social risks. On this occasion, he also expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

Representing the heirs of Ida Ayu Nyoman Oka, Ida Ayu Putu Eka Susanti expressed appreciation for the attention shown by the Gianyar Regency Government and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. “We are very grateful to the Regent and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan for the attention and assistance provided to our family. This assistance is very meaningful to us,” said Dayu Eka.
