Heirs of Bekasi Train Accident Victim Receive Rp 435 Million in Social Security Compensation, Labour Minister Emphasises Social Protection

The heirs of a victim from the train accident at Bekasi Timur Station have received social security benefits worth Rp 435,624,820. The handover of these benefits was highlighted by Labour Minister Yassierli, who emphasised the importance of social protection for all workers, including those in the informal sector. The compensation was given to Baskoro Aji (31), the husband and heir of the late Tutik Anitasari (31), one of the victims of the train accident that occurred on 29 April 2026. The late Tutik was registered as a participant in the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan non-wage recipient (BPU) segment and left behind a husband and a toddler. Yassierli stated that the delivery of this compensation demonstrates the state’s presence in providing protection to workers and their families when facing work risks. This statement was made by Yassierli after witnessing the handover in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, on Monday. The benefits received by the heirs consist of Work Accident Insurance (JKK) amounting to Rp 235,238,400, funeral compensation of Rp 10,000,000, Old-Age Security (JHT) of Rp 11,886,420, and scholarships for the child worth Rp 166,500,000. According to Yassierli, social security benefits are not only in the form of cash compensation but also long-term protection for workers’ families, including child education insurance. He views this case as an important example of the significance of social security participation for all workers, especially in the informal sector that is vulnerable to work risks. The government, said Yassierli, continues to encourage the expansion of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participation, one of which is through a policy of a 50 percent premium discount for the Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Insurance (JKM) programmes for non-wage workers. “Through this premium relief, we want to ensure that more informal workers can be protected. Premiums may be lighter, but the protection benefits remain fully provided,” Yassierli emphasised. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan President Director Saiful Hidayat stated that social security benefits provide economic protection certainty for workers’ families when facing risks. “These benefits ensure that workers’ families still have economic security so they can continue their lives more securely,” Saiful said. Through various such policies, the government reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all workers, both formal and informal, receive fair, inclusive, and sustainable social protection.
