Hegseth: US will not accept refugees from the Middle East
Washington — US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth said that the United States has no plan to accept a new wave of refugees from the Middle East amid the escalation of conflict with Iran. He added that countries in the region are considered capable of hosting them.
‘I think it’s safe to say there are no plans to accept a new wave of refugees from the Middle East into the United States, because President Donald Trump has long shown that there are many countries in the region that could provide such support if needed,’ Hegseth told reporters on Thursday (5 March).
On Saturday (28 February), the United States and Israel launched a series of strikes against several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran then launched retaliatory missile attacks on Israeli territory and on US military facilities in the Middle East.
