Heavy Traffic Prompts Open-Close Contraflow on Japek Toll Road Wednesday Night
Karawang (ANTARA) - Traffic flow on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road (Japek) was quite congested on H-3 Eid, or Wednesday night, prompting officers to implement open-close contraflow traffic engineering on that stretch of road.
VP Corporate Secretary and Legal of PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT), Ria Marlinda Paallo, stated in Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday that the contraflow was applied to facilitate smooth traffic during the mudik flow for the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 holiday period.
It was mentioned that the contraflow traffic engineering from KM 36 to KM 70 towards Cikampek on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road was enforced situationally with an open-close scheme based on police discretion.
Previously, the contraflow on that segment had been temporarily closed to adjust to on-site traffic conditions.
After observing that traffic conditions had increased again, the contraflow from KM 36 to KM 70 towards Cikampek was reopened at 20:51 WIB.
She said the contraflow was implemented at the discretion of the police to support the smooth flow of vehicles heading to the eastern Trans Java region.
The company continues to coordinate intensively with the police and related agencies in managing traffic to ensure the smoothness and safety of road users’ journeys.
Jasamarga advises all road users to always obey traffic signs and on-site officer instructions, as well as to ensure sufficient balance on their electronic money cards before travelling.
Meanwhile, besides contraflow, JTT is also optimising the implementation of the national one-way traffic engineering in line with the increasing mobility of the public during the peak mudik period for Eid.
During the H-10 to H-4 period (11–17 March 2026), a total of 387,451 vehicles passed through the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate towards the east. That traffic volume increased significantly by 95.59 percent compared to normal traffic of 198,098 vehicles.
