Heavy Rain Triggers Landslides at Several Points in Sleman

Heavy rain of moderate to intense levels, accompanied by strong winds, struck Sleman Regency on Tuesday (14/4). This condition triggered several landslide incidents in various sub-districts. The Acting Head of the Sleman BPBD, R Haris Martapa, stated that the landslides occurred across the Pakem, Cangkringan, and Tempel areas. “Moderate rain accompanied by strong winds caused landslides at several points, some of which disrupted road access,” Haris told reporters on Tuesday (14/4/2026). He detailed that in Pakem Sub-district, a landslide occurred on the embankment of the Cemoroharjo field in Candibinangun, impacting road access. Additionally, the road embankment in the Randu area of Hargobinangun was reported to have collapsed, disturbing road users. “In Pakem, there are two points where embankments have slid and collapsed, thus disrupting road access,” he said. Meanwhile, in Cangkringan Sub-district, landslide material covered the access road to Pentingsari Hamlet in Umbulharjo. Officials, along with local residents, immediately carried out handling to restore the route. In the Tempel area, the riverbank in Bulan, Banyurejo, was reported to have slid due to erosion from water flow. This condition is potentially dangerous because there is a banyan tree on top of the embankment that is at risk of falling. “In Tempel, this needs to be watched because there is a potential for the banyan tree above it (the embankment) to fall and endanger the public,” Haris stated. The Sleman BPBD, together with residents and village government, has conducted assessments, coordination, and cleaning of landslide material at the incident sites. As of the latest report, there were no fatalities in the incident. “For now, there are no fatalities; the data is still preliminary and we continue to update it according to field conditions,” he concluded.
