Heavy rain that has been lashing the Karangasem region since Friday (15/5/2026) until Saturday (16/5/2026) has triggered a number of disasters in several locations. The events include fallen trees, collapsed retaining walls, and landslides.

However, the Karangasem Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries in the incidents. The Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of the Karangasem BPBD, I Gede Sutama, said that his agency had received several reports from the public regarding the impact of the extreme weather that occurred over the past two days.

“Some of the disaster reports have been successfully handled. The rest are being assessed by personnel,” said Sutama, Saturday (16/5/2026).

One of the fallen tree incidents was reported in Tribuana Village, Abang District. The fallen tree hit two motorcycles, causing damage. The incident was quickly handled independently by local residents.

In addition, heavy rain also caused the collapse of retaining walls in several areas. In Sangkan Gunung Village, Sidemen District, a 6-meter long and approximately 2.5-meter high retaining wall belonging to Wayan Budiasa was reported to have collapsed. As a result, the homeowner chose to evacuate temporarily for fear of further landslides.

Similar damage also occurred in the Tanah Ampo area, Ulakan Village. The wall of the house belonging to I Wayan Sudah collapsed after being hit by strong currents. The losses due to the incident are estimated at Rp 25 million.

“There are still several collapsed retaining walls in several areas, including a landslide in Tri Eka Bhuana Village, Sidemen, which has temporarily made the road impassable,” said Sutama.

Sutama predicted that there may be several disaster incidents that have not yet been reported by the public. However, he assured that if there are reports, his officers will immediately be dispatched to the location.

“We are ready 24 hours a day to handle disasters when there are reports from the public. We also urge the community to always be vigilant,” said Sutama.
