Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding in Padang, SAR Team Urges Public Vigilance

Heavy rain has triggered flooding in the city of Padang, West Sumatra, prompting the local Search and Rescue (SAR) office to deploy teams to affected areas. The head of the Padang SAR office, Abdul Malik, stated that the high-intensity rainfall caused water levels to rise, inundating residential areas and disrupting traffic.

SAR teams equipped with rubber boats were dispatched to assist residents trapped by the floodwaters. The flooding, which began on Monday afternoon, has affected several locations including Lubuk Minturun, Rimbo Tarok, Sungai Sapih, and Kurao Pagang. Reports indicate that water has entered homes and submerged major roads, severing transport links.

Abdul Malik explained that the flooding was exacerbated by rivers overflowing due to the sheer volume of rainwater. The Padang SAR office has urged the public to remain cautious and vigilant against potential further disasters, as heavy rain is still forecast for the region.
