High water discharge has caused drainage systems and rivers around residential areas to overflow, inundating settlements and thoroughfares. Meulaboh (ANTARA) - The West Aceh District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has mobilised personnel to Woyla Barat sub-district after four villages in the area were flooded to a depth of 30 centimetres. “High water discharge has caused drainage systems and rivers around residential areas to be unable to accommodate the volume of water, resulting in overflow into settlements and thoroughfares,” said Acting Head of BPBD West Aceh, Teuku Ronald, to reporters in Meulaboh on Wednesday. The villages affected by flooding in Woyla Barat sub-district, West Aceh district, include Napai Village, Blang Luah Village, Cot Rambong Village, and Alue Leuhop Village. Teuku Ronald stated that high-intensity rainfall pounding the West Aceh district from Monday to Tuesday (6-7/4) has caused several villages in Woyla Barat sub-district to be flooded. He added that the current water levels are still submerging residents’ homes and main road access, with heights ranging from 15 to 30 centimetres. Although residents’ activities have begun to be disrupted due to pooling on the road surfaces, so far there have been no reports of people evacuating. As an effort to assist the community in the flood-affected locations, his agency has mobilised several elements, including BPBD West Aceh personnel, Woyla Post personnel, TNI, Polri, and assistance from local residents. “We continue to monitor the situation periodically. Field teams also remain on standby to anticipate if water levels rise again,” said Teuku Ronald. BPBD West Aceh has urged residents to remain alert to the potential for follow-up extreme weather that could increase water levels at any time.
