Heavy Rain in Denpasar, Bali Causes Fallen Trees and Building Damage
Extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit Denpasar City, Bali, in the early hours of Friday (12/6) WITA, causing several trees to fall and damaging facilities.
Denpasar Police Public Relations Head Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya stated that based on monitoring activities, the situation remains safe and efforts are underway to anticipate further impacts.
“Personnel from West Denpasar Police immediately conducted checks at several points after the heavy rain and strong winds. This monitoring aims to determine the impacts that occurred while ensuring public safety,” said Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra in a written statement on Friday afternoon.
Monitoring began at 04:30 WITA, targeting several locations potentially affected by the extreme weather conditions. From the field checks, several impacts were discovered.
He detailed that among them was a fallen frangipani tree located in the area of SD Negeri 2 Pemecutan on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Pemecutan Klod village. Additionally, the heavy rain and strong winds caused damage to several facilities and buildings, such as the canopy roof and signboard of Planet Ban, the roof of SDN 2 Pemecutan, the roof of a boarding house on Jalan Imam Bonjol Gang Ramayana, the neon box of Klinik Be Health Medika, and the canopy roof of Toko Kain Dewata.
Officers also received information regarding a PLN substation that exploded due to the weather conditions. Meanwhile, Gede Adi added that the monitoring found no incidents of flooding, standing water, or landslides. Water levels in several rivers flowing through the West Denpasar area were also observed to be normal, including the Tukad Badung, Tukad Mati, and Tukad Srogsogan rivers.
He conveyed that based on the temporary monitoring results, there were several instances of damage caused by the extreme weather, but no casualties or major disruptions to community activities were found.
“We urge the public to remain alert to weather changes, especially during heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. If you encounter an emergency situation or potential hazard, immediately report it to the relevant authorities so it can be handled quickly,” he said.
