A road in Sekotong, West Lombok, connecting the villages of Taman Baru and Buwun Mas, has been completely cut off by a landslide on Wednesday (25/2/2026). The landslide was triggered by a large volume of water flowing from the surrounding hills, a result of heavy rainfall over the past three days.

“It’s true, it was caused by the rain,” said the Head of the Sekotong Police Sector, Iptu I Ketut Suriarta, to detikBali on Wednesday (25/2/2026).

The road has often been affected by landslides during heavy rain. However, the current situation is considered the worst, completely disrupting access for residents using two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles.

The road is now temporarily closed, and authorities are monitoring the area to prevent residents from attempting to cross it. As a result, residents who need to travel to Gerung or Mataram City must take a very long alternative route, even having to go through Central Lombok.

The Head of the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Settlement Area (PUPRKP) of West Lombok, Lalu Ratnawi, stated that the road will initially be handled by the West Lombok Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

This initial response will be semi-permanent in nature, aimed at quickly restoring access for residents. After that, the PUPRKP team from West Lombok will carry out a permanent reconstruction.

“Currently, the BPBD will handle the situation through emergency response, with semi-permanent measures to expedite the restoration of access for residents. After that, we will begin the permanent reconstruction,” Ratnawi explained.
