Heavy rain creates havoc

DEPOK: Heavy rain for three hours on Wednesday evening caused flooding in several areas, as well as traffic congestion which was yet to ease on Thursday.

A toppled tree cut the railway line connecting Jakarta with Bogor, while many houses in Pancoran Mas area were inundated by knee-length water after the Jemblongan river overflowed.

A makeshift shelter and a tree near to the river also fell down.

Motorists passing Jl. Margonda and along the roads in Depok Jaya subdistrict suffered the worst of the traffic congestion, not only because the road was flooded, but also because the traffic lights were not working. -- JP
