Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Two Villages in East Lombok
Heavy rain that has drenched the Jerowaru sub-district, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), has caused two villages to be flooded on Tuesday (24/2/2026). Dozens of residents’ homes have been affected by the overflowing river and dam water.
The flood has inundated dozens of homes in Seriwe Village and Ekas Buana Village. In addition to residential areas, access roads, several public facilities, and places of worship have also been flooded.
The Head of Seriwe Village, Hudayana, said that the flood occurred after heavy rain fell in the area for the past two days. The high rainfall caused the volume of water in the river and dam to increase, eventually overflowing into residential areas.
“The heavy rain since yesterday caused the volume of river water to increase and the dam water to overflow into residents’ homes. Approximately 70 homes have been affected,” Hudayana told detikBali.
Hudayana explained that a similar flood had occurred about two months ago. At that time, the floodwaters receded after the dam gates were opened on both sides. However, the heavy rain that fell again over the past two days caused the water to overflow again and expand the impact of the flooding.
“Yesterday, the water had receded because we had opened the dam gates on both sides. But because of the rain that has been falling for the past two days, the water has overflowed again and the impact has expanded,” Hudayana said.
A similar situation occurred in Ekas Buana Village. Knee-deep floodwaters inundated dozens of residents’ homes. The strong currents made residents panic and choose to stay inside their homes.
“The residents here are panicking because the floodwaters are quite strong, they are not brave enough to go outside, especially with the strong winds,” said Haeruni, a local resident.
He said that this flood was worse than the previous incident. “It’s worse than before, if before it only reached the road and the water didn’t enter residents’ homes, but now the water has entered the houses,” Haeruni said.
