Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Five Sub-Districts of Kendari
Kendari (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) stated that five out of 11 sub-districts in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province, were affected by flooding due to heavy rain that hit the area on Saturday (May 16).
The Head of BPBD for Kendari City, Cornelius Padang, when contacted in Kendari on Sunday, said that his team was currently working to collect data on areas affected by the flood.
“We are still collecting data from the villages; they may still be handling (the floods),” said Cornelius Padang.
The affected areas include five sub-districts: Mandonga, Puuwatu, Kadia, Wuawua, and Baruga.
The agency is committed to providing services and assistance to residents affected by the flooding in Kendari City.
Meanwhile, a video circulating shows residents of BTN Puri Taman Kendari, Puuwatu sub-district, shouting for help while wading through floodwaters that inundated their residential area.
“Help, help, come here,” said someone in the video.
“In Wanggu, people’s houses are flooded again; it’s all muddy,” said a resident.
ANTARA’s monitoring in Wuawua sub-district, which was also affected by the flood, showed that the water had begun to recede. Several personnel from the Kendari City Fire Department were seen at the location helping residents clean their homes from mud and debris left by the floods.
