Heavy rain and strong winds damage several buildings in Sidoarjo

Several tent-style coffee stalls on Jalan Ahmad Yani in Sidoarjo District were observed to have been damaged by the gale-force winds.

Sidoarjo, East Java (ANTARA) – Heavy rain and strong winds again struck Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, on Wednesday 4 March, causing damage to a number of permanent and semi-permanent buildings and felling several trees at various locations within the Sidoarjo district.

The head of the Sidoarjo Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sabino Mariano, confirmed that damage to a number of permanent and semi-permanent structures had been recorded at several points in the district following the heavy rain and strong winds in the late afternoon.

‘We are still on site,’ he said briefly when contacted by media via WhatsApp on Wednesday.

In addition, several tent-style coffee stalls along Jalan Ahmad Yani, Sidoarjo District, were observed to have been damaged by the gale-force winds.

As of 7:00 pm WIB, rain and strong winds were still affecting the Sidoarjo district.

Authorities have yet to confirm casualties and losses and are continuing assessments and response measures in the affected areas.
