Heavy Overnight Rain Floods Several Roads in Tangerang City
Heavy rainfall overnight across Tangerang City flooded several roads, including Jalan Raya Merdeka in Kecamatan Karawaci, on Sunday (8 March), disrupting traffic.
Based on CNNIndonesia.com’s monitoring, water levels reached around 30 to 50 centimetres, causing traffic on Jalan Raya Merdeka to become congested.
Moreover, a number of motorcycles stalled while attempting to pass through the flood on that road in the early hours of Sunday.
The high level of floodwater is believed to have been triggered by heavy rainfall since Saturday night (7 March). In addition, the drainage system’s suboptimal condition caused water to overflow onto the roadway.
This condition prompted complaints from residents as floods are said to frequently occur at the location and disrupt community activities.
A resident, Heri Gunawan, said floods on Jalan Raya Merdeka almost always occur whenever rain falls heavily for a relatively long period.
He hopes the city and provincial governments will promptly carry out repairs so that similar incidents do not recur.
“Flooding happens often, no action has been taken. Please to the government, this has happened too often,” said Heri.
Besides Jalan Raya Merdeka, the overnight rain also caused waterlogging on several other streets in Tangerang City, including Jalan Ciledug Raya, Jalan Raya Husein Sastranegara in Benda, Jalan Raya Gempol in Pinang, and the Batu Sari area in Batuceper.
