Heavy machinery starts levelling Tabanan's Terminal Pesiapan area
The Terminal Pesiapan area in Dauh Peken Village, Tabanan District, began redevelopment today. Heavy machinery has started levelling the area and demolishing several structures on the western side of the terminal. The terminal area appears deserted of activity, with only a few vendors clearing their goods before temporarily relocating. A fruit-selling couple at Terminal Pesiapan said they have temporarily moved their stall to their home. “We’re selling from home for now. Customers can contact me once I’ve moved,” said the wife, who wished to remain unnamed, on Monday, 1 June 2026. She hopes that after the redevelopment, existing vendors will retain their spots to resume trading. “I’ve been selling since before the pandemic. Hopefully, after the redevelopment, the area will improve and attract new customers,” she added. The redevelopment is part of Tabanan Regency Government’s plan to restore terminal functions and develop a public market at the site. Tabanan Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) Head I Gde Made Partana stated the redevelopment covers approximately 1.5 hectares. Under the plan, terminal functions will be retained and positioned at the front of the site. Meanwhile, the rear area, particularly the west side, will feature kiosks for a hobbyist market. A central open stall area is designated for the public market, while permanent kiosks will be built on the east side for vendors. “The overall area redevelopment concept has been finalised. The new structures will not include multi-storey buildings,” Partana said. The Tabanan Regency Government has allocated a budget of Rp 15 billion for the redevelopment. This includes Rp 11.784 billion for the Senggol Pesiapan Public Market and Rp 3.215 billion for the terminal office building. “The Terminal Pesiapan redevelopment project is targeted for completion by December 2026. It is expected to support transportation activities and provide a more organised business environment for vendors,” he added.
