Police said four people are feared trapped following an explosion at a luxury house in the elite Grand Polonia Medan housing complex, North Sumatra. Heavy machinery has been brought in to evacuate the victims.

As reported by detikSumut on Monday (20/7/2026), a number of heavy machines could be seen deployed at the scene, including cranes and excavators.

The machinery was seen clearing the rubble of the house scattered across the road. It was also removing debris blocking access to the three-storey luxury residence.

Personnel from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) were seen standing by at the location, alongside several police officers. As of tonight, the evacuation process is still under way, with officers from both Basarnas and the police remaining at the scene.

Earlier, police said six people were believed to have been inside house number 3B, the site of the explosion. Two of them have been evacuated.

“Based on the data we have obtained, there were six people living inside. Of those six, one man was successfully evacuated, and a toddler is currently being treated at a hospital,” said Medan Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak.
