Heavy Equipment at Burangkeng Landfill in Bekasi Halts Operations, DLH Ensures Truck Queues Under Control
The Environmental Agency (DLH) of Bekasi Regency has assured that the halt in heavy equipment operations at the Burangkeng Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Setu has not yet directly affected the public. As of now, queues of rubbish transport trucks remain under control and have not extended to public roads or residential areas. DLH spokesperson for Bekasi Regency, Dedi Kurniawan, stated that the situation is still manageable despite vehicle build-up at the disposal site. Nevertheless, Dedi acknowledged the potential for disruptions to waste transport services for the public if the condition persists for an extended period. He mentioned that waste collection schedules could face delays. “Regular services to residents may experience schedule discrepancies. For those collected once or twice a week, the timetable could be postponed,” he said. DLH Bekasi Regency, Dedi continued, remains vigilant against further impacts, particularly if truck queues continue to grow due to the non-operation of heavy equipment at the site. “We are concerned about services to the public, as many trucks are held up at the TPA,” he said. The situation has caused hundreds of rubbish transport trucks to be unable to unload and forced to queue within the TPA area. Dedi explained that the halt in heavy equipment operations was triggered by rising fuel prices, particularly Pertamina Dex, which has impacted cooperation contracts with third parties. Dedi said that DLH Bekasi Regency is currently pursuing various measures to restore normal TPA operations, including coordination with relevant regional apparatus. “We are exploring various options to get the TPA operations running again,” Dedi stated. For information, the Burangkeng TPA is the final disposal site serving waste from 23 districts and 187 villages in Bekasi Regency. The local government hopes this issue can be resolved soon to avoid disrupting cleanliness services to the public.
