Heavy congestion as Jakarta-Cikampek toll road experiences peak exodus traffic towards Central Java
Vehicles became stuck in traffic on the toll road exiting Jakarta near the Cikampek toll gate in West Java on Wednesday, 17 March 2026.
As what was predicted to be the peak day of the 2026 Eid exodus approached, long congestion began affecting motorists on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road (Japek) heading towards Central Java.
In the early hours of Wednesday, 18 March at 03:14 Western Indonesia Standard Time, vehicle queues were reported to have reached 29 kilometres in length. Based on field observations of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, congestion points were identified stretching from kilometre marker 22 to kilometre marker 51.
Although vehicle flow continued moving slowly, the accumulation of traffic volume appeared highly significant across the entire stretch of the road.
This situation aligned with the government’s projection that Wednesday, 18 March 2026, would mark the peak point of the Eid exodus this year.
