Heating Up! US Strikes Iran's Revolutionary Guard Bases

Iranian authorities have stated that the United States military struck a base belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the northern province of Gilan. “This morning, the IRGC naval forces headquarters in Zibakenar was targeted by enemy American projectiles, damaging some equipment in the complex,” said Ali Bagheri, deputy governor of Gilan province, as quoted by Iran’s official news agency IRNA. Meanwhile, Iran’s military said on Friday that it had carried out further drone strikes against several US military facilities and bases in Bahrain and Jordan in retaliation for the latest American strikes against the Islamic Republic. “This morning, fuel tanks, a large equipment warehouse, silos, and barracks of the US terrorist army at Isa Air Base in Bahrain were targeted by Arash kamikaze drones,” the Iranian military said in a statement broadcast by state television. An AFP journalist in Bahrain reported explosions and the sound of warning sirens in the country on Friday morning local time, although it was unclear if the two events were linked. Iran’s military also claimed a drone attack on Jordan, targeting “aircraft hangars, aviation maintenance hangars, and barracks” at the Al-Azraq base. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that Iran would hold any country assisting the United States in attacks against the Islamic Republic accountable. Tehran maintains that any military facility or base in the Middle East used by the US military to attack Iran is considered a legitimate target for retaliation. “Any participation, cooperation, or assistance in committing aggression against Iran will incur international responsibility for the parties involved,” Araghchi said during a meeting in Kyrgyzstan, adding that Iran “reserves the right to take all necessary measures within the framework of self-defence.”
