Heated Clash! Netanyahu and Mossad Chief in Sharp Dispute Over Iran War Intelligence

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad Director David Barnea are reportedly engaged in a sharp dispute regarding strategy and the accuracy of intelligence in the war against Iran. This situation has sparked concerns about paralysis in Israel’s national security command.

Several sources and Hebrew-language reports indicate that Barnea has not attended any joint meetings with Netanyahu over the past week. The escalation stems from Netanyahu’s accusations that Mossad provided misleading information on military capabilities, as well as the political and social conditions in Iran. Netanyahu claims that this faulty intelligence has plunged Israel into a war with uncertain outcomes and potential existential threats to the nation.

In response, Mossad has defended itself by asserting that the data provided was accurate. They, in turn, accuse Netanyahu’s personal “adventurist spirit” of triggering the war with unpredictable results. Mossad emphasises that full responsibility for any potential military failure lies with the Prime Minister, not the intelligence agency.

This crisis of trust has spilled over into issues of information leaks. The Prime Minister’s Office and Mossad are reportedly accusing each other of the presence of Iranian spies in sensitive Israeli military and security centres. Similar disputes occurred in September 2025 during the attack on Doha, where both sides blamed each other for the leak of operational information just before it began.

Furthermore, Barnea is reported to have warned Netanyahu well in advance that war with Iran would expose Mossad’s secret networks in the southern Persian Gulf. Efforts to protect those networks, such as relocating personnel to hotels or military bases, risk revealing identities and leading to the total destruction of Israel’s intelligence network in the region.

Previously, a report from Israel’s Channel 12 television station revealed that Mossad Director David Barnea provided an optimistic assessment to Netanyahu before the start of the joint US-Israel attack on Iran. In a series of closed meetings, Barnea stated that toppling the Tehran regime was an achievable target.

Citing several unnamed sources, Channel 12 reported that Barnea assured Israel’s political leadership that success in military objectives would be key to regime change. The strategy included “decapitation” or neutralising Iran’s leadership, destroying state institutions, and weakening Tehran’s capacity to suppress its own civilians.

Barnea claimed that if Iran’s power infrastructure were paralysed, Mossad along with the CIA would have the capability to reignite mass protests on Iran’s streets. The intelligence services of both countries are said to be able to coordinate popular movements while identifying alternative figures or entities to replace the current regime.

Nevertheless, the report emphasised that the Mossad chief also provided critical notes and qualifications to his assessment. He warned that the situation on the ground was evolving dynamically and that efforts to achieve long-term political targets could take a very long time.
