Heated argument behind Nabiel
Heated argument behind Nabiel
A simple meeting between Indonesian state minister for the
environment Nabiel Makarim and Greenpeace activists produced a
heated argument outside the meeting room.
But it was not Nabiel nor Greenpeace activists who were in
conflict, but the United Nations' security officers and a media
relations officer.
The security officers insisted that there would be no press
statement after the meeting, while the media relations officer
kept trying to get cameramen and photographers to at least get a
picture of the meeting.
"You have to decide who is going to take pictures of the
meeting and who will escort them," one of the security officers
said in high-tone voice.
After seeing the Indonesian media officer get confused by the
request, the security officer charged: "See, she doesn't even
know who should enter the meeting!"
The dispute was settled after the press managed to get both
pictures and statements directly after the meeting as the
minister and Greenpeace activists decided to meet the press. --
