Heartwarming Story of Ummi, a Quran Teacher Sent on Umrah by the National Police Chief

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has once again presented a free umrah pilgrimage to Umsiyah Zulfa (42), affectionately known as Ummi, a kindergarten and Qur’an education teacher from Sukagumiwang village, Indramayu Regency, West Java.

Ummi has dedicated herself to teaching at TPA Imam Al-Ghozali since 2016. In the early days of her efforts, she even took the initiative to pick up and drop off children in her neighbourhood to encourage them to learn the Qur’an.

For nearly a decade of service, the Indramayu-born woman has never received a fixed honorarium. Payments from parents are voluntary and are entirely allocated to the operational costs of the TPA.

“When I heard I had received a free umrah gift from the National Police Chief, I was very grateful. It never crossed my mind, because I have been focused on my children’s school and Islamic boarding school fees,” Ummi said when contacted from Jakarta on Friday (14/8/2026).

Ummi expressed her emotion at the opportunity to worship directly in the courtyard of the Kaaba in Mecca. She views this appreciation as a tangible form of attention towards Qur’an teachers in remote villages.

“For me, this is not only the most beautiful gift, but a miracle from Allah SWT through the kindness of the National Police Chief and the Free Umrah Religious Tourism programme from the Indonesian Police Lovers Community,” she said.

This free umrah programme is part of a series of social activities by the National Police together with the Indonesian Police Lovers Community. In addition to religious tourism, this humanitarian programme also includes house renovation initiatives, pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and the construction of Precision Prayer Rooms in various regions.
