Two tourist attractions, namely Kelingking Beach and Broken Beach, have long been mainstays of tourism in the Nusa Penida sub-district, Klungkung, Bali. However, it is regrettable that these two destinations have not yet been supplied with clean water.

The Head of Bunga Mekar Village, I Wayan Yasa, explained that the clean water channels of the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) Tirta Mahottama Klungkung have already reached his village. However, they have not yet extended to Kelingking Beach and Broken Beach.

“If the connections to residents’ homes that have been installed so far are running smoothly, but indeed the tourist attractions at Kelingking Beach and Broken Beach have not been installed,” said Yasa on Tuesday (12/6/2026).

The Klungkung PDAM is only planning to build clean water channels with an investment of around Rp 700 million there. In fact, both tourist attractions in Bunga Mekar Village should already have met their clean water needs.

“For Kelingking Beach, this year we want to invest there,” said the Director of PDAM Klungkung, Nyoman Renin Suyasa, when met by detikBali in his office.

Suyasa explained that so far the clean water channels have reached Bunga Mekar Village, including Kelingking Beach. However, there is no special network for the beach tourist area.

“Our team has already conducted a feasibility calculation because the cost of building the network is not small, so we have to calculate the potential revenue from there first. And from the number of hotels that exist, as well as those to be built there, our research and development says it is feasible and we are ready to invest,” Suyasa revealed.

As a regional company, revenue calculations from every new channel construction investment are very important. Considering that, in addition to the obligation to supply clean water to the community, revenue as a company must also be taken into account.

The Klungkung PDAM is also preparing to build channels for the Broken Beach area. However, this preparation is hindered by certainty of road ownership.

“For Broken Beach, we also want to invest, but there is still an issue with road certainty. Although it is said to have been handed over to the region, but this certainty we have not received. Later if we install the network, and the road status becomes problematic, then we will be the ones in trouble,” Suyasa explained.

Suyasa claimed that all villages in Nusa Penida are actually already supplied with PDAM clean water. The water comes from two springs on the island and a seawater desalination machine using Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) on Ceningan Island.

“Actually, all villages in Klungkung are already served. Only Pejukutan Village in Nusa Penida is not yet. And this year it will be connected there. If it enters there, then 100% will be served,” Suyasa clarified.
