Health services for all

JAKARTA: Health care services have been set up in the lobby of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) building to ensure that legislators, visitors and journalists covering the Annual Session have quick access to medical treatment.

There are three booths offering health care, an emergency clinic, three ambulances and a clinic set up in different locations of the compound.

Each health care booth has one doctor and one paramedic on hand. The emergency clinic is better staffed with a cardiologist and an anesthetist ready to help with any medical problems.

Health care services are available from 9 a.m. until the last session finishes at about 3 a.m..

Hadrian Tanjung, a doctor at one of the booths, said that the first two days had been quiet.

"We haven't had any serious cases. People have only come with minor complaints, such as headaches or fatigue," he said.

About 60 people came to his booth for a brief checkup on the first day. The second day was even more quiet, with only 16 people who visited.

All the medicine available at the booths was provided by the Assembly's secretary-general. --JP
