Health Ministry: Week 12, measles cases drop to 146 cases
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Health stated that in week 12 of 2026, measles cases decreased to 146 cases, compared to around 368 cases in week 11, representing a drop of approximately 93 percent when compared to week 1 of 2026.
“And if we look at the first week of 2026, the number of cases was 2,220. So when comparing from the first week to week 12, we can see a reduction of around 93 percent,” said Acting Director General of Disease Control and Prevention Andi Saguni in Jakarta on Monday.
Andi said there were 14 provinces with high cases in 2025-2026, including North Sumatra, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java. Several provinces, such as North Sumatra and West Sumatra, now have cases down to 0, and cases in other provinces have also decreased.
His side also conducted surveillance in 10 regencies and cities with the highest cases, such as South Tangerang, Tangerang, Bima, Palembang, Pandeglang, West Jakarta, Depok, Palu, Serang, and Central Jakarta.
On that occasion, he mentioned that in addition to surveillance and vaccination, his side recently issued a circular as an effort to protect healthcare workers and medical personnel from measles.
He also explained the follow-up actions by his side, including epidemiological investigation, in response to the death of a 25-year-old healthcare worker in Cianjur, West Java, due to measles.
“He examined measles cases on the 8th, then 19th and 21st. He was an emergency room doctor at Pagelaran General Hospital. We can see here that he was on duty for two consecutive days on the 15th-16th,” he said.
On 18 March, the deceased complained of fever, flu, and cough, then requested leave from work and was permitted.
“On 25 March at 23:00 WIB, the case arrived at the emergency room of Cimacan Hospital, brought by his family with complaints of decreased consciousness,” he said.
He stated that there was a deterioration and intubation was performed, but the healthcare worker ultimately passed away with a final diagnosis of measles along with heart and brain disorders.
In general, he said, measles cases in Cianjur are lower compared to the 10 highest areas, with a total of 25 suspected cases and 9 confirmed cases, and no new cases in week 12.
