JAKARTA — The Ministry of Health has reported that based on national data, there are 8,224 suspected measles cases, with 572 confirmed cases and four fatalities.

“From 2026 through week 7, there have been 8,224 suspected measles cases, 572 confirmed cases, and 4 deaths (case fatality rate of 0.05 per cent),” said Andi Saguni, Acting Director-General for Disease Control, in a statement on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Andi explained that there are 13 confirmed measles outbreaks spread across 17 districts in 11 provinces throughout Indonesia.

Throughout 2025, there were 63,769 suspected measles cases, with 11,094 laboratory-confirmed cases and 69 deaths (case fatality rate of 0.1 per cent).

Andi stressed that measles is a highly contagious disease requiring vigilance and rapid response. “Measles has a very high transmission rate. Therefore, every increase in cases must be responded to quickly through strong surveillance and timely reporting,” he said.

The Health Ministry is consequently prioritising the strengthening of early warning systems. “We continue to strengthen measles surveillance nationally, including epidemiological investigations within a maximum of 24 hours of case detection and real-time reporting through the Early Warning and Response System (SKDR),” he explained.

The rise in measles cases has also been reported in various regions worldwide, including Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific, which increases the risk of cross-border transmission.

All cases reported to date have recovered, and cross-border coordination continues.
