Health Ministry Investigates Alleged Intimidation of Doctor, Affirms Right to Protection for Medical Workers

The Ministry of Health has confirmed it will thoroughly investigate the alleged intimidation experienced by Dr Icha, a doctor who served at Leona Hospital in Kefamenanu, North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The commitment was made following the news of Dr Icha’s passing. The ministry also stressed that every health worker has the right to protection, security, and respect while providing services to the community. Head of the Ministry’s Communication and Public Information Bureau, Aji Muhawarman, stated that the Directorate General of Health Human Resources and the Inspectorate General are currently handling the case. He said a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to trace the alleged intimidation by a certain individual. ‘Every health worker has the right to obtain protection, security, and respect in carrying out their duties of serving the community. There should be no intimidation, pressure, or actions that demean the dignity of health workers,’ Aji said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday. The ministry is coordinating with local governments, professional organisations, law enforcement officials, and the hospital to ensure legal protection and psychosocial support for health workers. The ministry also urged all parties to respect the ongoing investigation process.
