Jakarta — Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has ensured that all hospitals under the Ministry of Health remain operational to handle emergency cases during the 2026 Eid holiday break.

“During the extended holiday in accordance with the President’s directive, all Ministry of Health hospitals will continue to operate for emergency procedures. For example, if a stroke patient arrives at the emergency ward, services including emergency care, CT scanning, and surgery if necessary will continue to run,” said Budi Gunadi whilst at Dharmais Cancer Hospital in Jakarta on Monday (16 March 2026).

Budi explained that the Ministry of Health currently operates nearly 40 hospitals throughout Indonesia.

However, the Ministry of Health has adjusted the operational schedule for elective or scheduled medical procedures during the period of 20 to 23 March.

“The procedures we are reducing or rescheduling over those four days are elective procedures — procedures that are scheduled and non-emergency in nature,” said Budi.

He provided an example: radiotherapy for cancer patients, which is typically conducted multiple times per week, will be rescheduled by shifting it to the day before or after the holiday period, ensuring that the total therapy course is still completed.

He emphasised that this policy ensures healthcare services continue to operate optimally without disrupting the handling of emergency cases that require immediate intervention.

“For life-saving procedures we maintain full operations, whilst scheduled procedures we will rearrange to ensure healthcare services continue to function properly,” said Budi.
