Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono has affirmed the government’s commitment to improving public education on the importance of health check-ups at community health service centres.

To safeguard maternal and child health, the Health Ministry is maximising the role of Integrated Service Posts (Posyandu) in conducting pregnancy check-ups at least six times during pregnancy, aiming to prevent and address risks of abnormalities in both mother and foetus. The ministry is also finalising plans for free health service financing and efforts to improve the welfare of health workers to support service delivery.

Regarding health technology development, the ministry is investing in robotic systems for surgical procedures to reduce mortality rates. It is also investing in artificial intelligence (AI) to assist with early diagnosis, such as using X-rays to detect lung cancer.

The Health Ministry is also leveraging advances in biotechnology for treatment processes, supported by improvements in the quality of health workers. However, more extensive education and information dissemination are needed regarding Indonesia’s health technology capabilities in addressing the health sector.

The ministry is also driving health transformation by promoting health self-sufficiency through enhancing domestic production capacity for pharmaceutical raw materials, medical device raw materials, and medical device manufacturing. This is necessary to avoid a repeat of the Covid-19 situation, ensuring Indonesia does not remain dependent on other countries.

Additionally, the Health Ministry is promoting the First Thousand Days of Life (1000 HPK) programme as part of its strategy to improve the quality of Indonesia’s human resources.

What steps is the Health Ministry taking to improve the quality of Indonesia’s human resources and health technology services? Watch the full discussion between Serliana Salsabila and Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono on Profit, CNBC Indonesia (Monday, 31/08/2026).
