Health Minister Warns of Weight Gain After Eid, Here Are the Causes
Weight that has decreased during Ramadan can rise again quickly after Eid if eating patterns are not maintained. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin warned that excessive consumption of Eid cakes is one of the main causes of weight gain. This warning was conveyed through his official Instagram post @bgsadikin on Sunday (22/3/2026). He explained that three nastar biscuits have calories equivalent to one serving of white rice. If consumed in large quantities, such as up to 10 pieces, the calorie intake can equal one complete meal. “Eating one nastar never feels enough,” Budi wrote in his post. This condition causes calorie intake to increase unnoticed because snacks are continuously consumed in small but repeated amounts. Budi reminded that this habit can make the weight that has dropped during fasting rise quickly again. “If not controlled, weight can skyrocket in just a few days,” he wrote. During Eid, this pattern often changes drastically due to the abundance of sweet and high-calorie food choices. This sudden change causes the body to receive excess intake in a short time. This is one of the factors for weight gain after Eid.
