Jakarta (ANTARA) - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has advised the public to utilise the Nutri-Level label as a guide for selecting healthy food and drinks.

“Make sure when eating and drinking, choose healthy products, choose those graded A and B. D is okay, but only once a week,” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin in Jakarta on Tuesday after the inauguration of the Nutri-Level nutrition labelling on food and drink products in Indonesia.

“Today we are launching the Nutri-Level label,” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

Nutri-Level is a colour- and letter-based (A, B, C, D) nutritional labelling system applied to ready-to-eat food and drink packaging in Indonesia, indicating the levels of sugar, salt, and fat content in a product.

Level A, green, low GGL content.

Level B, light green, low GGL content.

Level C, yellow, moderate GGL content, to be consumed wisely.

Level D, red, high GGL content, which should be limited or avoided.

According to the Health Minister, the implementation of this nutritional labelling is important amid the increasing risk of non-communicable diseases due to excessive consumption of sugar, salt, and fat, such as obesity, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, and Type 2 Diabetes.

On that occasion, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin also had the opportunity to sample drinks labelled with Nutri-Level from Xing Fu Tang and Fore restaurants at Lippo Malls Indonesia (LMI).
