Health Minister Urges Travellers to Rest Every 3 Hours: Drowsiness and Fatigue Cause of Accidents
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has urged return travellers not to push themselves if tired. Travellers are expected to stop for rest every three hours using available facilities.
“Additionally, our message is that this journey is still long from here. If possible, stop every three hours,” Budi said after the flag-off of the national one-way system at GT Kalikangkung, Central Java, on Tuesday (24/3/2026).
According to him, drowsiness and fatigue during travel can endanger safety and even trigger accidents.
“Because drivers who are drowsy and fatigued are a cause of accidents and one of the major health and safety issues,” he added.
Budi explained that accidents do not only occur on toll roads, but also on arterial routes. Accidents outside toll roads often involve motor vehicles.
“Causes of accidents also involve many motorbike riders, so not only on toll roads but on arterial roads, yes. This is harder to handle,” he stated.
On the other hand, Budi revealed that the number of holiday travel accidents this year has decreased. He appreciated the National Police Chief and related parties.
“Alhamdulillah, thank you, Coordinating Minister, National Police Chief, the accident incidents have dropped drastically this year from this holiday travel process,” he said.
