Health Minister Says No Plan to Raise BPJS Premiums in 2026

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has stated there are currently no plans to increase BPJS Kesehatan premiums in 2026. “There are no plans yet to raise BPJS tariffs, and you need not worry if BPJS runs a deficit, the central government will certainly provide support,” he said during a press conference on the 2027 Fiscal Year Government Work Plan and Budget (RAPBN) and Financial Note in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that this support model would be replicated across the remaining 441 regional general hospitals (RSUD). “We are now in discussions with the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) and the Ministry of Finance to ensure the budgeting does not strain the government’s cash flow or worsen our state budget deficit,” he elaborated. The revitalisation of 441 RSUDs is intended to complement the construction of 66 RSUDs targeted under the Quick Best Results Programme (PHTC). “We will build these hospitals so that eventually, the service standards in all districts and cities will be equal,” Budi said.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health has successfully achieved savings of Rp10.25 trillion, or 52 percent, on the cost of medical devices in 2026 as part of efforts to improve healthcare service quality amidst budget efficiency measures. “There are savings of Rp10.25 trillion, or 52 percent, from the previous purchase prices of medical devices,” the Minister noted. His ministry has centralised the procurement of medical equipment sourced from a substantial World Bank loan. For instance, a catheterisation laboratory (cath lab) which previously cost Rp14 to Rp15 billion can now be acquired for Rp8 billion. “So, for the 2026 procurement, this is an example of the savings the President mentioned. This contract has already been executed. From an estimated price of Rp19.39 trillion for the cath lab, because we centralised the procurement, we managed to reduce it to Rp9 trillion,” he stated.
