Health Minister Reveals Only 4 Provinces Meet Measles Vaccination Target, West Sumatra Lowest
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has revealed that only four provinces in Indonesia have met the vaccination target for measles. The statement was made during a meeting with House of Representatives Commission IX at the Parliament Building in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. Budi explained that the national immunisation programme is also activated when outbreaks of certain diseases occur, including measles. “We also carry out immunisation programmes if there is an outbreak. What we did recently was for measles,” Budi said. He noted that measles has a high transmission rate, similar to Covid-19, and the vaccination coverage target for each region is 95 percent. “And so far, only four provinces have reached that target,” Budi stated. The minister pointed out that one province has a very high number of measles cases due to extremely low vaccination coverage, namely West Sumatra. “Once again, one of the provinces with the highest measles cases is West Sumatra. This also shows that acceptance of measles immunisation in West Sumatra is very low,” he stressed.
