Health Minister (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that the number of mudik accidents over the last three years has experienced a dramatic decline. Budi said this reduction is inseparable from the improvements in facilities and infrastructure carried out by Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi.

“And alhamdulillah, thanks to Mr Transport Minister who has significantly improved the facilities and infrastructure, the roads, buses, sea vessels, procedures and so on, so that the number of accidents in the last three years has decreased dramatically,” said Budi Gunadi Sadikin at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

Budi expressed thanks to Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo for organising the Polri Presisi 2026 Free Mudik. He said the biggest health issue is accidents.

“Mr President wants all his people to be able to mudik and also be healthy when returning from mudik, healthy at the mudik destination, and healthy when coming back from mudik. So, thank you, Mr Police Chief, for facilitating so that our society can mudik and also be healthy during mudik because earlier I saw their health checks, generally all healthy,” Budi stated.

“The biggest health problem is accidents, yes. That’s what most often makes our people return unhealthy or arrive at the mudik destination unhealthy,” he added.

Budi said all drivers planning to mudik have undergone health checks. He expressed thanks to General Listyo and Transport Minister Dudy.

“And where do accidents happen? They used to happen on toll roads, but alhamdulillah now with the help of Mr Police Chief, Mr Transport Minister, all drivers have had their health checked. If there is high blood pressure, sugar, or those using narcotics, we filter them out first, yes,” he said.

He urged mudik travellers to be more careful and to stop first after 2 to 3 hours of travel. He said mosques to health posts have been provided as rest areas on arterial routes.

“Now it’s shifting because toll roads have decreased a lot, now most are on arterial roads, yes, those using motorbikes. Well, that control must indeed be with the help of journalists, educating the public so they are more careful,” said Budi.

“If you’ve been driving for two or three hours, stop first. Mr Transport Minister has provided mosques as rest areas on arterial routes. There are also health posts there with the Police Chief, so you can stop by there,” he added.
