Health Minister prepares referral hospitals to treat victims of Bekasi train collision

Jakarta - The Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that his ministry is preparing several hospitals as referral centres for victims of the train collision in Bekasi, West Java, should they require further treatment. Speaking in Jakarta on Tuesday, Budi expressed sadness over the incident and hoped that the treated victims would recover fully. The incident involved a collision between a Commuter Line train and a long-distance train at Bekasi Timur Station, West Java, on Monday (27/4). “What we are supporting is, if they need referrals, if their injuries or trauma require further referral, we can direct them to the PON Hospital (National Brain Centre) or RSCM,” he said. He mentioned that many victims are currently being treated at government hospitals owned by the DKI Jakarta administration. “If they need mental health care, psychiatric treatment, our mental hospital RSJ Dr. Soeharto Heerdjan in Jakarta can also assist them,” Budi added. Earlier, an accident occurred between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL or Commuter Line at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4) evening. Then, at 20:52 WIB, KRL code 5181B heading to Jakarta collided with a stalled taxi at a crossing on Jalan Ampera. The KRL code 5568A heading to Cikarang was held at Bekasi Timur Station. At 20:57 WIB, the Argo Bromo train collided with the KRL at Bekasi Timur Station. The locomotive of the Argo Bromo entered up to half of the rearmost carriage of the KRL. The time of the incident is based on witness statements at the scene. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) reported that the number of fatalities from the collision between the Commuter Line and long-distance train at Bekasi Timur Station, West Java, was 14 people. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that based on the latest data as of 08:45 WIB, 14 people were recorded as deceased.
