Health Minister Praises Rp 170 Billion Bima Municipal Hospital as Sound, Though Improvements Needed
Health Minister (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin conducted a direct inspection of the Bima Municipal Hospital (RSUD) construction project in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), valued at Rp 170 billion. Following the inspection, Budi revealed that whilst the facility’s condition is commendable, several deficiencies require remediation.
Budi arrived at RSUD Kota Bima on Friday, 27 February 2026, at approximately 11:10 a.m. West Indonesian Time. He was accompanied by NTB Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, Bima Mayor A. Rahman, Bima Deputy Mayor Feri Sofiyan, Bima Regent Ady Mahyudi, and senior officials from both the Bima City and Regency governments.
Upon arrival, Budi methodically inspected individual rooms and facilities, including the emergency ward, radiology department, and other sections. Budi stated that his visit was solely for purposes of inspection, not for an official inauguration ceremony.
“I am here only to inspect, not to conduct an inauguration of RSUD Kota Bima,” Budi told journalists.
Budi explained that RSUD Kota Bima is one of 66 Type C municipal hospitals being constructed in remote areas. The hospital construction is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programmes designed to bring healthcare services closer to and improve healthcare provision for the public.
“This Type C hospital is being constructed to address five major diseases with high mortality risk, such as stroke, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, and maternal and child health,” he stated.
Based on his direct inspection, Budi praised the RSUD Kota Bima building as excellent in quality. However, several deficiencies require remediation by the contractor going forward. He did not elaborate on the specific shortcomings, stating these would be communicated directly to the contractor.
“I have inspected the building’s condition and it is already excellent. However, I will provide notes to the contractor to remedy several shortcomings so that the final result meets expectations,” he explained.
Regarding the timeline, Budi confirmed that the RSUD Kota Bima project, which consumed a budget of hundreds of billions of rupiah, is planned for completion between June and July 2026. Medical equipment (alkes) for supporting facilities will be delivered in phases.
“Perhaps by July, this RSUD will already be operational. Supporting medical equipment will be in place, as will the doctors. I inspected everything today; the doctors are genuine sons and daughters of Bima and NTB,” he noted.
Meanwhile, NTB Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal expressed gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto for, through the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), constructing an adequate hospital facility in Bima City.
“With this RSUD, Bima residents will no longer need to travel far to Mataram for treatment,” he added.
