Health Minister Highlights Dangers of High Blood Pressure, Linked to Three Major Diseases in Indonesia

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Dr Benjamin Paulus Octavianus, Sp.P(K), was officially inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as Deputy Health Minister on 8 October 2025, tasked with accelerating the national health transformation, primarily to eliminate tuberculosis (TB).

Indonesia is currently the country with the second-highest number of TB cases in the world after India, with cases reaching 1,090,000 and approximately 125,000 deaths in 2025. Deputy Health Minister Benjamin Paulus stated that TB is an infectious disease, and to address the problem the Health Ministry has launched programmes including regular screening of TB patients’ families at 53,335 locations, covering more than 5 million people in total.

The Health Ministry also continues to promote education and prevention of the causes of TB, including through education on the dangers of smoking. Meanwhile, the ministry is also focused on efforts to treat three main diseases that burden the nation, namely heart disease, stroke cases and dialysis, caused by high blood pressure and uncontrolled diabetes.
