Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has stated that intern doctors will now receive insurance coverage from both BPJS Kesehatan and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. “Even though they are still interns, their duties are covered by BPJS Employment and BPJS Health,” Budi said during a working meeting with House Commission IX in Jakarta on Thursday, 25 June 2026.

Additionally, Budi announced that the Ministry of Health has established a complaint service for healthcare workers experiencing bullying or violence. “We have also opened a channel for reports of violent pressure, whether physical, from patients, from unknown individuals, or even from colleagues,” he stated.

The minister noted that he had received numerous reports of bullying among healthcare workers. “What surprised me is that the most common complaint from doctors is bullying. We looked at the data on cases brought to council hearings due to patient lawsuits, or threats on social media, and it turns out the highest number involves bullying, mostly from peers or seniors,” Budi explained.

He further revealed that many healthcare workers face physical or moral threats while on duty. “There are physical threats, not necessarily from patients, which we must also guard against, especially in conflict areas. Most interestingly, there are high levels of bullying threats from fellow colleagues,” he said.

Budi cited an example where a healthcare worker wishing to work in a region outside their senior’s medical faculty jurisdiction would face pressure. “Or when they start working, they are pressured by a senior. This is the most common disturbance, and we must systematically protect them, especially young doctors and those assigned to other locations,” he concluded.
