Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has urged the public to take advantage of Eid al-Adha to increase animal protein intake. He stated that kurban meat distributed during the holiday is highly nutritious and serves as a quality protein source for the population.

In his Budi Gemar Sharing (BGS) Instagram reel at @bgsadikin, Budi said the protein in beef and goat meat offers significant health benefits, aiding muscle development and supporting recovery after physical activity.

“Kurban meat is a great blessing as its protein content is equivalent to whey protein worth millions of rupiah,” Budi said in Jakarta on Wednesday (27/5/2026).

He explained that 100 grams of beef contains approximately 26 grams of protein, which is vital for muscle growth and maintenance, particularly for those who exercise regularly or are recovering from strenuous activity.

Budi added that red meat contains various essential amino acids the human body cannot produce itself, meaning these nutrients must be obtained through diet.

“Goat and beef are crucial for the body as they contain amino acids that cannot be synthesised by our own bodies,” he said.

Budi also reminded the public not to consume all kurban meat in one meal. He suggested dividing it into smaller portions to be cooked over several days.

“If given about one kilogram of kurban meat, don’t finish it all at once. Divide it into smaller portions to cook over several days,” he said.

Furthermore, Budi highlighted the presence of leucine in beef and goat meat. Leucine is one of nine essential amino acids that play a key role in stimulating muscle growth.

He noted that animal protein intake is particularly important for groups prone to protein deficiency, such as housewives, teenage girls, and the elderly.

“These groups are the most frequently deficient in animal protein in Indonesia,” Budi said.

Budi encouraged the public to view Eid al-Adha not only as a time for sharing with others but also as an opportunity to improve nutritional quality. He said kurban meat distribution is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to boost high-quality animal protein consumption.

“Eid al-Adha is not just about sharing meat with others. For our health, it’s a valuable opportunity to upgrade to the cheapest annual protein boost,” Budi said.
