Bantul — The Health Authority (Dinkes) of Bantul District, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has confirmed there are no deaths from measles, despite an increase in measles cases in the area.

Samsu Aryanto, Head of Disease Prevention at the Bantul Health Authority, said that measles cases in Bantul identified during the period from January to 12 March 2026 totalled 17 cases, compared to 14 cases recorded during 2025.

“No one has required hospital treatment, and all cases have recovered. Laboratory results simply confirmed these were measles cases, and there have been no deaths,” he said.

Similarly, of the 14 measles cases identified in the Bantul region during 2025, no patients died.

“Whilst there has been an increase in cases, there is no epidemiological connection. It is not an outbreak of extraordinary circumstances. However, there is an increase in cases that happen to be spreading,” he said.

He stated that as a precaution to prevent the further spread of measles, Bantul is currently preparing a targeted immunisation programme. Children aged nine months to 59 months who have not yet received measles immunisation will be offered the vaccine.

“Measles is highly contagious. Therefore, we will conduct a targeted immunisation campaign soon,” he said.

He urged the public to seek immediate medical attention at local health facilities if they experience symptoms pointing to measles, such as cough, runny nose and red eyes, so that treatment can be administered promptly.
