Headmaster Complains to Pramono: Funds for Free School Programme Released Late
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The headmaster of Bhakti Luhur Elementary School, South Jakarta, Chairudin, expressed his concerns regarding the disbursement mechanism of funds for the free private school programme during a meeting with the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, at the Jakarta Provincial Education Office on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
During the meeting, Pramono initially asked the headmasters to come forward and speak on stage. They were asked to provide direct criticism and suggestions. Chairudin was one of them.
He explained that his school is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s free private school programme and expressed his gratitude for the programme.
“Thank God, our school is one of the schools included in the free private school programme,” said Chairudin.
“So, what is your criticism for the Department of Education?” Pramono asked.
Before expressing his complaint, Chairudin first asked for permission from the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Department of Education, Nahdiana.
He then answered cautiously.
“May I, Madam? I’ll ask for your permission first. Thank God, I am grateful to be part of this SSG (Free Private School) programme. As I said earlier, it’s like a windfall, because I get a lot of benefits. However, Madam, please don’t make the disbursement period six months,” said Chairudin.
He explained that the delay in disbursement makes it difficult for the school to manage its operations because expenses occur every month.
“I’m confused. My staff keeps asking for payment,” Chairudin continued.
In response, Pramono inquired about the certainty of the disbursement schedule, which currently takes place every six months.
“Okay, okay. So, every six months?” Pramono asked.
“Yes, it’s disbursed every six months,” he replied.
