The Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Senior Commissioner General Agus Suryonugroho has invited media organisations to partner with authorities in overseeing Operation Ketupat 2026. He stated that the media plays a vital role as a partner of the National Police in supporting the dissemination of information regarding traffic flow and traffic engineering schemes.

“The key to the success of Operation Ketupat is synergy and collaboration, but there is one partner whose role is equally important—the media. Media does not merely report on the exodus home, but helps protect the safety of the people’s journey,” said Senior Commissioner General Agus while attending the departure ceremony for national media mudik teams at Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Thursday (12 March 2026).

In Operation Ketupat 2026, the Traffic Corps will utilise various digital technologies to ensure smooth flow of traffic during both the Lebaran exodus and return journey. Through fast and accurate information, the public can learn about road conditions, congestion points, rest areas, and alternative routes.

“We work not on prediction, but on technology. We calculate traffic counting and the ratio. If there is indeed high traffic surge, we will implement traffic management measures such as contraflow and one-way systems,” he explained.

“For this reason, I invite media colleagues to become part of the national safety movement. Convey to the public one simple message: going home is yearning. But do not rush,” he added.

Senior Commissioner General Agus stated that going home for Lebaran is not merely an annual tradition, but an opportunity to fulfil the longing for one’s hometown. For this reason, the state is present to guarantee the safety of travellers during their journey home and return from their hometowns.

“Going home and returning is a journey of yearning—yearning for one’s hometown and yearning for family,” he said.

“It is not only the state’s presence in the field, but ensuring that the state and National Police stakeholders convince people embarking on their journey home that they must be safe in their travels, comfortable during the journey, arrive safely at their destination, and meet their families happily,” he concluded.

Operation Ketupat 2026 carries the tagline “Safe Journey Home, Happy Family” in accordance with the instruction of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. In this year’s campaign, Senior Commissioner General Agus has also adopted a humanistic approach by conveying safety messages through a song titled “Orderly Journey Home, Do Not Hurry.” This measure was taken to make police appeals more easily accepted by the general public, including the younger generation.

The departure ceremony was attended by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) and the Director of Relations and Institutional Affairs of Jasa Raharja Dewi Aryani Suzana.
