Head of Commission X: Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus Unacceptable

Jakarta – The Head of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Hetifah Sjaifudian, expressed concern over an acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus allegedly committed by unknown assailants.

She expressed her concern because efforts to voice public aspirations continue to face significant risks, including those faced by Andrie Yunus.

“I wish to convey my concern over the incident that befell our colleague Andrie Yunus. As a former NGO activist, I deeply understand how efforts to voice the aspirations of the public still face considerable risk,” said Hetifah to journalists in West Jakarta, as reported on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Hetifah stated that the acid attack and other threats are unacceptable to anyone, including Andrie Yunus.

“Being doused with acid by irresponsible persons is something that should not be accepted, nor should other threats,” she said.

Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus to be conducted professionally, transparently, and using scientific investigative methods.

“Regarding the development of this acid attack case, I have received a direct order from the President to conduct a thorough investigation that is professional and transparent,” said Sigit while inspecting Gubeng Station in Surabaya on Sunday.

He explained that the investigative process employs a scientific crime investigation approach to ensure each stage of case handling is conducted objectively and based on evidence.

Additionally, he said that police are currently gathering various information related to the incident for further analysis in stages.

“We are currently collecting information and that information will be examined step by step,” he said.
