Head of Cirebon Buntet Islamic Boarding School Passes Away on Monday
Cirebon (ANTARA) - Aris Ni’matullah, Chairman of the Buntet Pesantren Islamic Education Foundation (YLPI), stated that the pesantren’s head and elder, KH Adib Rofiuddin Izza, passed away on Monday following medical treatment for illness. Aris, the late’s brother in Cirebon, West Java, said on Monday that KH Adib had been unwell since before Ramadan and had undergone intensive medical care. He said the deceased wished to return to the pesantren despite not having fully recovered. ‘He wanted to spend Ramadan with the students and experience the religious activities at the pesantren,’ he said. However, he added that the deceased’s condition worsened, requiring further hospital treatment and referral to Jakarta. ‘He received intensive medical care before passing away on Monday,’ he said. Aris said KH Adib’s death was a significant loss for the family and pesantren community, as he had been a central figure in education and preaching in Cirebon. ‘He also showed great concern for the community and was active in various social activities,’ he said. The late KH Adib’s body arrived at Buntet Pesantren in Mertapada Kulon Village, Astanajapura Subdistrict, Cirebon Regency, at around 13:47 WIB after being transported from Jakarta. Before burial, the body was given a funeral prayer at Buntet Pesantren’s Grand Mosque, attended by family, students, religious scholars, and the public. He was then buried at the Buntet Pesantren family cemetery complex in accordance with the family’s wishes and the deceased’s prior will.
