The Head of the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, has proposed an additional budget of Rp 1.473 trillion for 2027. This budget is intended, among other things, for the updating of surveys conducted by the BPS.

Amalia conveyed this during a working meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/9/2026). Currently, the BPS has been allocated a 2027 budget ceiling of Rp 6,476,751,392,000 (approximately Rp 6.4 trillion).

“The allocation within the 2027 budget ceiling in this financial note cannot yet meet all the budgetary requirements we need to operate optimally,” Amalia stated during the meeting at the DPR.

“Therefore, Ladies and Gentlemen, on this good occasion, we also wish to convey that BPS has submitted a request for additional funding to meet all the statistical activity requirements for the 2027 fiscal year,” she continued.

Amalia noted that 2027 marks the deadline for updating the cost-of-living survey. She mentioned that the survey is targeted to cover all regencies and cities.

“Because in 2027, it is due that we must perform an update on the cost-of-living survey, or what we call the public consumption pattern survey, which serves as the basis for inflation weighting. The inflation calculation will also involve surveys across all regencies and cities in 2027,” she explained.

Amalia stated that, as a result, inflation reports will not be limited to 38 provinces but will include all 514 regencies and cities. The BPS has proposed an additional Rp 1.4 trillion to the House of Representatives, with the total expected budget ceiling for BPS to reach Rp 7.9 trillion.

“Therefore, Ladies and Gentlemen, the additional budget requirement we are proposing is Rp 1.473 trillion,” said Amalia.

“The first deficit is to meet management support requirements amounting to Rp 546 billion, and for statistical activities involving important surveys and those that are due for updates by BPS, amounting to Rp 926 billion,” she added.

She also mentioned that many BPS offices are severely damaged. She expressed hope that the additional budget would be approved by Commission X of the DPR RI.

“That is our proposal, Ladies and Gentlemen. We must also convey that many BPS offices are already severely damaged and require repairs. As seen in the photos on the next slide, these offices are no longer fit to serve as workplaces for our BPS colleagues in the regions, and this requires special attention,” she concluded.
