Our food supply has already achieved self-sufficiency in food, protein, and carbohydrates. The nutrients the body needs are protein and carbohydrates. We have achieved self-sufficiency today.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the National Food Agency and Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, emphasised that Indonesia has attained self-sufficiency in protein and carbohydrates without imports through strengthened domestic production and national food policies.

“Our food supply has already achieved self-sufficiency in food, protein, and carbohydrates. The nutrients the body needs are protein and carbohydrates. We have achieved self-sufficiency today,” he said during a working meeting with Commission IV of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Amran mentioned that various strategic staple foods that have reached self-sufficiency levels include rice, broiler chicken eggs, chicken meat, and feed corn. These four commodities serve as sources of carbohydrates and protein, as well as supporters of animal protein production.

This achievement of self-sufficiency in carbohydrates and protein is recorded in the 2025 National Food Balance Projection. For rice throughout 2025, there will be no imports because annual production reaches 34.69 million tonnes, sufficient to meet annual consumption needs of 31.16 million tonnes.

Broiler chicken meat production reaches 4.29 million tonnes with annual consumption of 4.12 million tonnes. For broiler chicken egg production, it is 6.54 million tonnes with annual consumption of 6.47 million tonnes.

Import-free conditions also apply to feed corn. After imports of feed corn occurred in 2024, throughout 2025 it is ensured there will be no imports. Feed corn production with 14 percent moisture content throughout 2025 stands at 16.16 million tonnes with consumption needs of 15.23 million tonnes.

Furthermore, Amran stated that there are still several strategic staple foods that no longer depend on imports. He even said that Indonesia has become an exporter to meet global market needs.

According to him, the vision of food self-sufficiency as directed by President Prabowo Subianto is the main key in handling crises due to geopolitical impacts and climate change.

The change in the rice self-sufficiency target from four years to one year, achieved by the end of 2025, serves as proof of President Prabowo’s vision.

“To handle the crisis, if it had not been addressed since (I was) inaugurated by Mr President, it would not have happened today. We could be in disarray today,” he said.

In the current Government Food Reserve (CPP) stock, rice is the largest stock. As of 7 April, the CPP stock in the form of rice has even reached 4.6 million tonnes and has surpassed the previous year’s record stock which was at 4.2 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, for other CPP stocks, Bapanas records 177 thousand tonnes of feed corn, 122 thousand kilolitres of cooking oil, and 48 thousand tonnes of consumption sugar. Then, 8 thousand tonnes of beef, 3 thousand tonnes of buffalo meat, 39 tonnes of broiler chicken meat, and 7 tonnes of broiler chicken eggs.
